Rivers Politics Heat Up: APC Governors’ Support Strengthens Fubara’s Re-election Bid.

Published

on

According to Nivo News, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has received backing from several All Progressives Congress (APC) governors amid growing tensions with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the governor’s 2027 re-election bid. Sources within the party say that the support from top APC governors has bolstered Fubara’s political standing and strengthened his position in the party hierarchy.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Party insiders revealed that the friction escalated after Wike reportedly sought to influence the succession in Imo State without consulting APC Governor Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the APC Governors Forum. This prompted some APC governors to rally behind Fubara in Rivers, countering Wike’s perceived overreach. A senior APC official noted that Wike’s influence in the state is being challenged as the party leadership continues to support Fubara’s second-term ambitions.

Meanwhile, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, reiterated his endorsement of Fubara and dismissed Wike’s attempts to interfere in the party’s affairs. Basiru emphasised that Wike, not being a member of the APC, has no authority to dictate party politics in Rivers State. He also cautioned South-South APC Chairman Victor Giadom against making statements undermining Fubara’s position.

In response, Wike warned Basiru to avoid meddling in Rivers politics during a visit to Oyigbo Local Government Area, highlighting the state’s influence and resources. He stressed that outsiders should respect local political dynamics and avoid unnecessary commentary. Basiru, in turn, maintained that he has the mandate to oversee APC activities nationwide and rejected any allegations suggesting personal interest in Rivers State funds, affirming his commitment to principled leadership.

The renewed support from APC governors and national leaders has emboldened Fubara, signaling a consolidation of his political base ahead of the 2027 elections.

A comprehensive Nigeria Police Force (NPF) investigation report, finalized on July 24, 2026, has revealed that Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged operator of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), misused approximately ₦400 million on personal expenses. Contrary to Adeyemi’s claims that this sum was a facilitation fee to secure a government appointment through Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, police found no evidence of such a transaction. Instead, forensic analysis confirmed forgery of appointment letters and other official documents, with financial records showing the funds were spent on luxury items, vehicles, and relatives. Further compounding his financial situation, Adeyemi allegedly secured an additional ₦100 million loan to maintain his high-end lifestyle.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The investigation also uncovered severe lapses in due diligence across several government bodies, which allowed the fraudulent council to gain official recognition. Five senior public officials—including directors in the offices of the Accountant-General and Head of Service, and staff from the Budget Office and Ministry of Budget—have been identified as having facilitated Adeyemi’s access to government processes. The NPF has recommended the prosecution of these officials, subject to legal counsel, alongside the interrogation of 22 other individuals connected to the case. The findings have been forwarded to the Attorney-General of the Federation and other relevant security and government agencies.
