Edo Lawmaker Quits Labour Party, Joins ADC Amid Political Tension.
The lawmaker representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Murphy Omoruyi, has officially defected from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal crises within his former party and growing pressure from his constituents.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, Omoruyi announced his defection on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Benin City, describing the move as a decision driven by the interests and demands of the people he represents. He noted that his loyalty has always been to his constituents and not to any political platform.
The lawmaker explained that despite remaining committed to his legislative responsibilities of lawmaking and oversight, the persistent internal challenges within the Labour Party had made it impossible for him to continue. He recalled that his steadfast loyalty to the party earned him the nickname “The Last Man Standing,” a reflection of his commitment even as others exited the party.
However, Omoruyi said the deepening and unresolved crises rocking the Labour Party forced him to reconsider his political future. He disclosed that his resignation from the party was formally communicated in a letter addressed to his ward chairman in Ward 10, Egor Local Government Area, on December 30, 2025, before aligning with the ADC-led coalition.
Upon joining the African Democratic Congress, the Edo lawmaker pledged to collaborate with party leaders, coalition partners, and stakeholders to advance good governance and effective representation. He also criticized the current administration, blaming poor infrastructure and economic hardship for the growing frustration among constituents.
Omoruyi lamented the state of infrastructure in his constituency, noting the absence of good roads and the difficult living conditions faced by residents. He stressed that his defection was a strategic step aimed at safeguarding the interests of the people and aligning with their desire for political change.
Reaffirming his commitment, the lawmaker assured constituents that their trust remains his guiding principle, adding that his decision was taken to better serve them and secure a brighter future for the constituency.
