Four Anambra Lawmakers Lead Mass Defection To ADC Following Peter Obi’s Move.
According to Nivo News, four members of the Anambra State House of Assembly and several loyalists of the Labour Party (LP) have formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The move comes shortly after former LP presidential candidate Peter Obi officially joined the ADC, signaling a major political realignment in Anambra State and across the South-East.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The lawmakers who switched allegiance include LP caucus leader Hon. Jude Ifeanyi Umennajiego, Hon. Fred Ezenwa, Hon. Kingsley Udemezue, and Hon. Henry Nigeria Mbachu. Alongside them, prominent party figures such as former LP State Secretary and Publicity Secretary Barr. Okoli Akirika, Engineer Theo Egbe, and ex-Commissioner for Women Affairs Lady Harrieta Agbata also joined the ADC.
Speaking at the defection event, Umennajiego described the move as the start of a larger wave of realignments following Obi’s transition to the ADC. He predicted that the ensuing defections would be “humongous and tremendous” across the state and the entire South-East, highlighting it as a demonstration of loyalty to Obi’s leadership.
Barr. Okoli Akirika, who convened the meeting, pointed out that similar defections had been witnessed in Enugu State after Obi’s shift to the ADC. He urged members to formally register with the party at the ward level and emphasized the importance of strengthening the ADC from the grassroots. Akirika framed the defections as a citizen-driven movement aimed at fostering good governance and preventing the hijacking of party structures.
The meeting concluded with a communiqué read by Engineer Theo Egbe, confirming that the defectors had resigned from the Labour Party both individually and collectively in alignment with Obi’s decision. Egbe encouraged all new ADC members to liaise with ward leadership to ensure proper registration and integration into the party’s structures.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
