According to Nivo News, the assault, which occurred over the weekend, plunged the largely agrarian community into mourning and widespread fear. The incident was confirmed on Sunday by the Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area, Christopher Audu Manship.
In a statement issued on his behalf, the council chairman disclosed that the attackers invaded the community and deliberately targeted Christian residents. During the raid, several villagers were reportedly killed, many others sustained varying degrees of injuries, while homes and other valuable properties were set ablaze.
The statement described the attack as brutal and senseless, noting that properties worth billions of naira were destroyed in the coordinated assault. Manship expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and condemned the violence in strong terms.
He assured residents that the local government was working in collaboration with security agencies to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks in the area.
A resident of Bong village, Lawrence Dogari, corroborated the incident, stating that the number of casualties could rise as several victims were still receiving treatment for injuries, while others remained missing as of the time of reporting.
Dogari disclosed that fear had gripped the community, forcing many residents to flee their homes in search of safety, as uncertainty continued to trail the aftermath of the attack.
The incident has renewed calls for increased security presence and urgent intervention by the Plateau State Government and security agencies to curb the recurring violence and safeguard vulnerable communities across the state.
