According to Nivo News, the tragic crash occurred on Monday, December 29, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and resulted in the deaths of Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Joshua, who was involved in the accident, sustained minor injuries and was later discharged from hospital on New Year’s Eve.
The 36-year-old boxer returned to the United Kingdom on Saturday and made his first public appearance since the incident through a post shared on his social media platforms on Sunday.
The post featured a photograph of Joshua standing with the families of the deceased, accompanied by a brief but emotional caption reading, “My Brother’s Keeper,” alongside heart and dove emojis, reflecting grief, solidarity and remembrance.
The accident reportedly occurred when the sports utility vehicle conveying Joshua and three others collided with a stationary truck after experiencing brake failure. Joshua was said to have narrowly escaped death after switching from the front passenger seat to the back seat shortly before the impact, a decision reportedly influenced by concerns that his size was obstructing the driver’s view.
While the two men lost their lives at the scene, Joshua sustained a fracture to his leg and was said to be in stable condition, with no need for emergency medical intervention.
The boxer had only recently arrived in Nigeria for a holiday following his knockout victory over Jake Paul when the tragic incident occurred. Since his return to the United Kingdom, Joshua has largely remained out of public view, with the social media post marking his first public acknowledgement of the devastating loss.
