Peter Obi’s 2023 Momentum Can’t Stop APC, Says Lawmaker.

A member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has played down the possibility of opposition parties unseating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, describing such calculations as unrealistic and detached from political realities. According to Nivo News, Abejide made the remarks during an interview on a televised political programme on Friday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The lawmaker dismissed claims that a merger of votes garnered by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election would automatically translate into victory against the APC in 2027. He argued that relying on the outcome of the last election to forecast future success amounts to wishful thinking.

Abejide also pointed to internal disputes within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), noting that unresolved leadership challenges within the party weaken any ambition to challenge the ruling party. He maintained that, under the current political circumstances, no opposition platform has the cohesion or structure required to defeat the APC.

Speaking further, Abejide attributed Peter Obi’s impressive performance in the 2023 election largely to religious concerns at the time, particularly among Christians in the northern region who feared possible limitations on religious freedoms. He said those anxieties have since diminished following President Bola Tinubu’s handling of national affairs.

According to Abejide, the conduct of the president in office has reassured Nigerians across religious divides, stressing that Tinubu has demonstrated that he is neither a religious extremist nor biased toward any faith. He warned that opposition parties attempting to replicate the political dynamics of 2023 are building their strategies on unstable ground, as the political environment has significantly evolved since Tinubu assumed office.
