AuntieEsther Passes On After Rejecting Blood Transfusion On Religious Grounds.
According to Nivo News, popular social media personality and cancer patient, Mensah Omolola, widely known as AuntieEsther on X, has passed away after weeks of intense public discussion surrounding her medical treatment and religious convictions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Her death was confirmed on Saturday by media figure #AUNTYMUSE_, who stood by her throughout her illness. The confirmation followed reactions to posts on X announcing her passing, with condolences pouring in from supporters and followers across the country.
AuntieEsther became a national subject of debate after openly declining a blood transfusion recommended by medical professionals as part of her cancer treatment. She based her decision on her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness, a stance that sparked widespread conversations on social media and beyond about the intersection of religious belief and critical medical intervention.
Amid growing public concern, Nigerians rallied around her cause, contributing over ₦30 million to support her treatment. The fundraising effort was coordinated by charity advocate Wisdom Obi-Dickson, popularly known as #Wizarab10, who confirmed in early December that ₦30.7 million had been raised.
Prior to her death, AuntieEsther shared updates indicating that medical examinations showed the cancer was limited to her breast and armpit regions. She disclosed that doctors planned to begin chemotherapy but advised that her blood count needed to improve first. She explained that she and her family had chosen alternative treatments aimed at boosting her blood levels without transfusion, expressing appreciation for the overwhelming support she received.
The situation became more contentious after it emerged that her church had cautioned her against accepting blood transfusion, warning of possible disciplinary measures. Obi-Dickson revealed that doctors proposed two treatment paths—one involving transfusion, which was less costly and quicker, and another more expensive and prolonged option that avoided transfusion in line with her beliefs.
Despite ongoing medical advice, AuntieEsther reportedly remained firm in her decision, supported by her family and religious leaders. Meanwhile, #AUNTYMUSE_ clarified that her refusal of blood transfusion had been clearly stated from the outset, even before donations commenced, adding that doctors believed the alternative treatment plan still offered a chance of success.
Her passing has continued to divide public opinion, with some questioning the handling of donated funds, while others defended her right to make personal and faith-based medical decisions.
