The gesture was part of a luncheon hosted by Balogun for the widows and children of fallen officers. Alongside Brigadier-General Paulina Aburime, Chief Medical Director of the Military Hospital in Benin, Balogun personally presented gifts to 50 widows and six Magajiyas, leaders of soldiers’ wives.

Balogun emphasized that the initiative aligns with the welfare-focused philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, which prioritizes the wellbeing of soldiers and their families. “While others are celebrating, we recognize that some of us here have paid the supreme price through their husbands. Though they are no longer with us, the Army is here with you,” he said.

He further explained that the gesture is a demonstration of the Army’s commitment to its personnel and their families, assuring that similar support would continue during other festive periods, including Ramadan and Sallah. Brigadier-General Aburime commended the brigade for the effort, urging that the practice of supporting widows and children be sustained.

Several widows expressed gratitude for the support. Mrs. Queen Obazuwa, one of the beneficiaries, appealed for continuous assistance, highlighting the importance of the Army’s support in the aftermath of their loss.
