The appeal was made in a Christmas goodwill message released on Thursday by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd), who extended warm wishes to Nigerians across the country while commending NDLEA officers for their unwavering dedication to safeguarding communities from drug abuse.

Marwa praised the commitment and sacrifices of the agency’s personnel, describing their efforts as vital to protecting lives and maintaining public safety. He encouraged Nigerians to use the festive season as an opportunity to embrace healthy, drug-free decisions that would promote their wellbeing and that of those around them.

The NDLEA boss emphasized that collective responsibility remains key to building a safer and healthier nation, expressing optimism that Nigerians can work together to reduce drug-related harm. He concluded by wishing citizens a peaceful, joyful, and drug-free Christmas celebration.

The call comes amid rising concerns over drug abuse nationwide. Data from the World Drug Report 2025 indicates that Nigeria’s drug use prevalence stands at 14.4 per cent, nearly three times the global average, with an estimated 14.3 million people between the ages of 15 and 64 affected across the country.
