According to NFF sources, the match proved more challenging than anticipated, with the Super Eagles forced to show resilience, particularly in the second half. Simon downplayed concerns over the close scoreline, emphasizing that no match at the tournament is easy.
“Football at this level is not simple. Every team in this AFCON is competitive, so we ask our supporters to continue backing us,” Simon said after the game.
He added that the key priority at this stage is securing a winning start, regardless of how dominant the performance may appear. “The most important thing is the three points. Winning is what counts,” he explained.
Despite Tanzania’s resilience and periods of dominance after the break, Simon maintained that the Super Eagles handled the pressure comfortably and remained confident in their ability to score. “This is our job, and we know how to do it. Nobody is scared; we believe we can score more goals,” he said.
Looking ahead, Simon confirmed that the team’s focus has shifted to their next group match against Tunisia on Saturday, December 27, with the aim of securing another victory to strengthen Nigeria’s qualification prospects.
He also appealed to fans to continue supporting the team, assuring them that the players are committed to making the nation proud.
