The committee, chaired by Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, where members deliberated on a Privilege Matter raised during plenary. The issue centres on reported inconsistencies between the tax reform laws passed by the National Assembly and the versions later published in the official gazette.

During the meeting, members unanimously resolved to fast-track the investigation in order to preserve legislative integrity, uphold due process, and maintain public confidence in the lawmaking process. The committee stressed the importance of ensuring that enacted laws accurately reflect the decisions of the legislature.

Reiterating this commitment, Chairman Betara on Wednesday assured that the committee’s findings and recommendations would be presented to the House immediately after the conclusion of its assignment. He emphasised that the panel would carry out a transparent and thorough review of the matter.

The ad-hoc committee was established to ensure clarity, accuracy, and full alignment between legislation duly passed by the National Assembly and the gazetted tax reform laws, in line with constitutional requirements and established legislative standards.
