A senior All Progressives Congress (APC) figure, Osita Okechukwu, has cautioned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to heed the lessons from the rejection of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Okechukwu, a former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), described INEC’s dismissal of Turaki’s PDP faction as “karma finally taking its course” and warned that the ADC could face similar consequences if it violates Nigeria’s power rotation convention.

He emphasized that the ADC should not blame President Bola Tinubu or the APC if it succumbs to what he termed “power gluttony” in 2027 by attempting to bypass the convention that allows the South to complete its traditional eight-year tenure at the presidential seat. Okechukwu likened such actions to “boarding a vehicle tagged, No Refund after Payment.”

Reflecting on historical patterns, Okechukwu recalled the repeated sidelining of Igbo political interests in presidential elections since 1999, citing the denial of the PDP ticket to Dr. Alex Ekwueme, and subsequent elections in 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2019 where northern candidates were favoured.

He further warned that the ADC, if it continues on its current trajectory, risks the same fate as the PDP. Okechukwu questioned the assumption that northern voters would automatically deliver 12 million votes to the ADC, highlighting that the rotation convention is critical for national inclusion, equity, and unity.

Okechukwu concluded by stressing that Nigeria’s Fourth Republic relies heavily on the zoning rotation convention as a cornerstone for maintaining national cohesion, warning that its violation could destabilize the ADC and exacerbate political turmoil, as evidenced in the PDP.
