“This visit represents hope. It reaffirms the Federal Government’s commitment, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to peace, dialogue, and the rebuilding of trust. For NNPC Ltd., it marks a new beginning grounded in partnership, mutual respect, and shared responsibility,” Ojulari stated.

He commended the Presidential Committee on Ogoni Re-entry, led by Professor Don Baridam, and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for their steadfast leadership in fostering confidence and trust in the region.

Ojulari emphasized that NNPC Ltd.’s mission in Ogoniland extends beyond resource extraction, focusing on the welfare of people, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability.

“We firmly believe that energy development must go hand in hand with environmental protection and community wellbeing,” he said.

Reaffirming NNPC Ltd.’s responsibility to host communities, the Group CEO provided assurances regarding welfare, security, and opportunities.

“I am pleased to announce that one of our commitments to the Ogoni people is nearing completion. The process for the full-time employment of 30 Ogoni indigenes has reached its final stage, with employment offers already issued. We look forward to welcoming them in January 2026, marking a significant step toward shared progress and opportunity for our communities,” he added.

Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s dedication to addressing the longstanding issues in Ogoniland, noting that progress is now visible.

“Following our first meeting with Mr. President, commitments were made to improve living conditions in Ogoniland. He has begun fulfilling those promises, starting with road construction. We were assured of confidence-building measures, the establishment of a University of Environment, hospitals, an industrial park, employment opportunities, and other initiatives. Currently, 30 Ogoni youths have already been employed by NNPC Ltd.,” Fubara said.

Representing President Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu commended the Governor and Ogoniland stakeholders for their cooperation in addressing the region’s longstanding challenges.

    • Government Stance: The Presidency has labeled the PFIPC a “fictitious” organization, with spokesperson Bayo Onanuga describing Adeyemi as a “con artist” who used forged documents to impersonate a government official. Police investigations have reportedly led to an eight-count charge of forgery, impersonation, and fraud filed against Adeyemi and two associates at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

    • Adeyemi’s Allegations: Adeyemi denies all wrongdoing and claims his legal troubles stem from a dispute with the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. He alleged that the disagreement began after he refused a request from the Chief of Staff for a 48 per cent share of the agency’s ₦27.39 billion take-off grant. He further claimed that ₦400 million was collected by proxy and demanded an independent investigation by President Bola Tinubu.

    • Budgetary Discrepancies: The controversy is compounded by the appearance of the organization in the 2026 Appropriation Bill, which listed an allocation of ₦1.303 billion for the entity.

    • Procedural Details: While the Presidency maintains that the agency does not exist and alleges that Adeyemi attempted to use fraudulent documents to open bank accounts, they noted that no government funds were successfully transferred into those accounts. The case is scheduled to proceed in the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 27.
