Wike Targets 70% Completion Of FCT School Renovations By Early 2026.
According to Nivo News, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is on course to complete between 60 and 70 per cent of ongoing public secondary school renovation projects across the territory by the first quarter of 2026.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Mandate Secretary of the Education Secretariat, Danlami Hayyo, disclosed this in Abuja on Monday while addressing journalists shortly after resuming office following a three-week suspension. He stated that the ambitious school rehabilitation drive is being championed by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as part of efforts to transform education infrastructure in the nation’s capital.
Hayyo expressed gratitude to the minister for reinstating him and pledged his renewed commitment and loyalty to advancing the administration’s education agenda. He revealed that more than 100 public secondary schools have already been fully renovated under the ongoing upgrade programme, with several other projects currently at advanced stages of completion.
He noted that the scale of development in FCT schools is unprecedented, stressing that no previous administration in the territory has recorded such extensive transformation in educational infrastructure. Hayyo added that the facilities in FCT schools now rival, and in some cases surpass, those available in many states across the country.
The mandate secretary also clarified the circumstances surrounding his suspension, explaining that it stemmed from the issuance of an unauthorised circular by a director directing schools to shut down early over alleged security concerns. He emphasised that such directives fall outside the authority of directors and must receive approval from either the mandate secretary or the FCT minister before dissemination.
While thanking Wike for his understanding and intervention, Hayyo highlighted the importance of capacity building within the education secretariat. He disclosed plans to prioritise refresher training for directors and senior officials to ensure clarity of roles, adherence to protocol, and effective service delivery.
He stressed that structured training would help both newly appointed and serving directors better understand their responsibilities, decision-making boundaries, and the appropriate channels for consultation.
Nivo News reports that Hayyo was suspended on November 25 following the circulation of the controversial directive on early school closure but was reinstated on December 17 by the FCT Minister.
