“What Was Meant To Help Is Hurting Us” — Fubara Opens Up On Governance Crisis.

Published

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has described the last 23 months of his administration as turbulent, saying political instability and institutional bottlenecks slowed the pace of governance in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the governor made the remarks on Saturday in Bonny Local Government Area during a reception held in his honour by the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of the Bonny Kingdom, King Edward Asimini William Dappa, alongside the Grand Bonny Chiefs’ Council. Fubara was in the area to attend the Iria ceremony of Her Royal Highness, Queen Paula Tamunoipirinye Pepple, the wife of the monarch, which took place at Ikuba Square and drew traditional rulers, chiefs and other key stakeholders.

The governor acknowledged that the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State significantly constrained his administration’s ability to deliver governance at the expected level during its first 23 months. He, however, assured the people of Bonny Kingdom that his government has now been repositioned to pursue accelerated and more visible development across the state.

Fubara said the very structures designed to ensure good governance had instead posed serious challenges to his administration, stressing that it was never the intention of his government to deprive citizens of the dividends of democracy. He added that despite the setbacks, his administration had recorded notable progress in critical sectors such as education and infrastructure.

He explained that ongoing and inherited projects in Bonny were already yielding positive outcomes, noting that the town’s growing status as a global economic hub demands a stronger and more visible presence of the Rivers State Government to complement multinational operations, particularly the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) project.

The governor observed that Bonny’s expansion requires improved internal road networks, shoreline protection to tackle erosion, and increased economic activities, emphasizing that government presence must match the scale of industrial activities in the area.

Fubara announced plans to embark on the construction of new internal roads, implement shoreline protection projects, and introduce initiatives aimed at stimulating local economic growth. He assured residents that before the end of the first quarter of 2026, they would begin to experience tangible government presence and impact in Bonny, adding that his relationship with the kingdom is built on sincerity, mutual respect and long-term commitment.

The governor also accepted the traditional title of Amaopu Senibo of Grand Bonny conferred on him, describing the honour as a call to greater responsibility and service to the people of Bonny Kingdom and Rivers State. He pledged not to betray the trust placed in him, noting that chieftaincy titles represent duty and accountability rather than mere recognition.
