Osun Health Sector In Turmoil: Gov Adeleke And Oyebamiji Locked In Fiery Clash.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2026 election in Osun, Bola Oyebamiji, have clashed over the condition of the state’s health sector.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Oyebamiji had pledged to implement a comprehensive overhaul of healthcare facilities if elected, claiming that many health centres across Osun were in a dilapidated state. He described the poor state of healthcare infrastructure as a major obstacle to the state’s development.

Through his campaign movement coordinator, Adebayo Adedeji, Oyebamiji maintained that the health sector had worsened under the current administration. In a statement on Saturday, Adedeji said that criticism of Oyebamiji would not change publicly available facts.

He cited a report by CheckMyPHC.org, which revealed “significant workforce gaps in Osun’s primary healthcare centres, with 73 per cent reportedly lacking adequate staffing, many operating with zero to one personnel, and 44 per cent having no staff at all.” The report also highlighted that several centres lacked clean water, functional toilets, and basic hygiene facilities, hindering effective healthcare delivery.

Adedeji recalled that during former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s administration, when Oyebamiji served, over 300 of the state’s 600 primary healthcare centres were renovated, accusing the Adeleke administration of failing to maintain the initiative.

Governor Adeleke, however, dismissed the allegations, calling them baseless and a deliberate attempt at spreading misinformation. He stated that Osun currently leads the South-West in primary healthcare provision and claimed that his administration had renovated more than 200 primary healthcare centres since taking office.

Adeleke also accused Oyebamiji of being part of a committee under the previous APC administration that mismanaged a $20 million World Bank grant meant for renovating primary healthcare centres. “Osun will not return to the days of insensitive leadership,” the governor added.

    • Goje noted that the other abducted girls were rescued prior to the start of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration in 2019, making the incident a matter of the past for the current state government.

    • Leah Sharibu was one of 110 girls kidnapped by insurgents in February 2018; while most of her classmates were released a month later, she was reportedly kept in captivity due to her refusal to renounce her Christian faith.

    • Despite ongoing government assurances, Sharibu remains the only student from the group still in captivity more than eight years after the abduction.

    • Regarding the state’s security, Goje claimed that the Buni administration has made significant progress since 2019, making all local government areas in Yobe accessible to both citizens and humanitarian aid.

    • This improvement in safety has enabled many displaced residents to return to their communities, where the government has focused on rebuilding infrastructure and providing support in healthcare, education, and agriculture.

    • Furthermore, Yobe has become the first state in Nigeria to implement the National Internally Displaced Persons Policy, providing residents with the flexibility to decide whether to return to their ancestral homes or relocate elsewhere while receiving continued government support.
