The fire reportedly began after the children, who had been using a candle to read their books, fell asleep. The blaze quickly engulfed the house, destroying all the family’s belongings.

Speaking tearfully, Mrs. Nwosu explained that the candle had been lit for reading purposes in preparation for her NCE examinations, following a recent electricity outage in the area. She confirmed that both she and her husband were not at home when the fire broke out.

Mr. Godwin Nwosu, a tricycle operator in Umuahia, lamented the loss of everything the family had worked for throughout the year, describing the incident as a total devastation. “I am now homeless with my family. The fire razed the entire house. We could not salvage anything because my wife and I were not at home when it happened,” he said.

The couple expressed gratitude that their children survived the fire unharmed and appealed to the public for temporary shelter and financial assistance to help them recover from the tragedy.
