Tinubu Honors Late Islamic Scholar, Renames University Of Medical Sciences Azare.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Medical Sciences (FUMS), Azare, in honour of the late prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, as part of efforts to preserve and immortalize his legacy.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The President announced this decision on Saturday during a condolence visit to the family of the late cleric in Bauchi State, describing Sheikh Dahiru’s passing as a “great national loss.”

Sheikh Dahiru, the spiritual leader of the Tijjaniyya Brotherhood in Nigeria, passed away on November 27 at the age of 98.

President Tinubu arrived in Bauchi at approximately 4:10 p.m., landing at Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, where he was received with a Guard of Honour by the Nigerian Air Force. He was accompanied by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, his son Seyi Tinubu, and other top officials.

At the airport, he was welcomed by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, and Senator Shehu Buba (APC, Bauchi South).

Following the condolence visit, President Tinubu is expected to return to Lagos to spend the end-of-year holidays.

Speaking at Sheikh Dahiru’s mosque, Tinubu explained that renaming the university after the cleric was a recognition of his lifelong dedication to education, religious scholarship, humility, and service to humanity. He prayed for Allah’s mercy on the late scholar, asking that he be granted Jannatul Firdaus, while also seeking strength for his family, the Bauchi State Government, and the people of the state to cope with the loss.

Governor Bala Mohammed thanked President Tinubu for honoring the late cleric and Bauchi State through the renaming of the university.

Responding on behalf of the family, Sheikh Ibrahim Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the eldest son of the late cleric, expressed gratitude to the President for his visit, prayers, and the decision to immortalize their father. He also thanked Governor Mohammed for his continued support to the family.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi passed away at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, and was buried on Friday, November 28, according to Islamic rites.

Born in 1927 in Gombe State, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi dedicated his life to advancing Islamic education, promoting peaceful coexistence, and fostering unity across Nigeria. His teachings, emphasizing moral discipline, tolerance, and adherence to Islamic principles, earned him a wide following and deep respect both within and beyond the country.

He was also known for his contributions to community development, mentorship of young scholars, and strengthening religious understanding nationwide.
