Ekiti Govt Sacks Surgeon After Alleged Kidney Removal At EKSUTH.

According to Nivo News, the decision followed the findings of a seven-member Panel of Enquiry, chaired by Professor Francis Faduyile, which was set up two weeks ago after patient Joshua Afolayan raised concerns about organ harvesting during a surgical procedure at the hospital.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, confirmed the surgeon’s dismissal in a statement on Friday, describing the incident as a surgical complication rather than an act of organ harvesting for rituals.
Dr Filani assured citizens of the government’s commitment to prevent similar incidents in the future and stated that all members of the surgical team present during the operation would be suspended for one month pending further review. He added that the state government would cover the full cost of a new kidney transplant for Afolayan, including post-transplant care and medical maintenance for two years.
In line with the panel’s recommendations, the government also announced plans for a comprehensive reorganisation of relevant departments within EKSUTH to enhance clinical governance, accountability, and patient safety.
