The five-member group, identified as Akingbola Omotayo, Adeola Funsho Ogunrinde, Yahaya Amodu, Kubratu Babalola Olaitan, and Familola Sunday Olaitan, was apprehended on December 7 and 8, 2025, during raids on their shrines in Osun and Lagos States following extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly defrauded victims under the guise of providing spiritual cleansing and solutions to various ailments. Victims were reportedly convinced that the herbalists could conjure currency notes, which had to be “cleaned” through spiritual sacrifices before use. The suspects allegedly hypnotized their victims into providing funds for these supposed rituals.

In addition to the counterfeit notes, EFCC operatives recovered two luxury vehicles and several mobile phones from the suspects. The herbalists are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
