Dangote Declares Petrol Price Slashed To ₦739/Litre, Promises Crackdown On Overpricing.
According to industry reports, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has confirmed that petrol will begin selling at ₦739 per litre starting Tuesday, initially at MRS Oil and Gas stations. Speaking at the Lekki-based Dangote Petroleum Refinery during a press briefing, Dangote assured Nigerians that the recent reduction in petrol prices would be fully implemented and accessible nationwide.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Dangote explained that while the gantry price has been lowered to ₦699 per litre, including regulatory fees, some filling stations have been keeping pump prices high, undermining efforts to make fuel more affordable. He claimed certain officials encouraged marketers to maintain inflated prices, but emphasized that such practices would no longer persist.
The businessman encouraged bulk buyers to take advantage of the ₦699 price and confirmed that members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have been engaged to ensure nationwide compliance.
Dangote further vowed that his refinery would deploy all available resources to reduce petrol prices across the country, insisting that Nigerians should not pay more than ₦740 per litre during December and January. He questioned the justification for petrol being sold at ₦900 per litre, noting that transportation costs from the refinery are minimal and that the refinery is not making excessive profits.
He also criticized the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for issuing numerous import licenses for the first quarter of 2026, arguing that such actions discourage local refining investments. Dangote dismissed monopoly claims, noting that no restrictions prevent others from establishing local refineries, and lamented the struggling state of most modular refineries in the country.
As of the time of filing this report, the NMDPRA had not issued an official response regarding Dangote’s announcement.
