The Federal Government has intensified diplomatic efforts to secure the release of a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft and 11 military personnel currently being detained by authorities in Burkina Faso.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the troops and the aircraft, now held for the third consecutive day, were intercepted by the Burkinabe military regime over claims that the plane entered the country’s airspace without proper authorisation.

Military insiders confirmed on Wednesday that neither the personnel nor the aircraft had been freed, noting that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken over negotiations to ensure their safe return. A senior officer expressed optimism that the intervention of the ministry would expedite their release.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, also acknowledged the situation, stating that the Nigerian Embassy in Ouagadougou was already engaging with the Burkinabe authorities to resolve the matter.

Previous reports indicated that the Burkinabe government insisted the Nigerian military aircraft carrying 11 soldiers violated its airspace and was subsequently compelled to land. The state-run Agence d’Information du Burkina, quoting a statement issued by the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), disclosed that investigations confirmed the aircraft lacked the required clearance before entering Burkina Faso.

The AES condemned the alleged breach, describing it as a serious violation of the airspace and sovereignty of its member nations and calling for respect for established protocols.
