Two lawmakers from Bayelsa State have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection was formally announced by House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas in a letter read during Wednesday’s plenary session. Ambaiowei cited the prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP as a primary reason, emphasizing that the internal divisions had hindered his ability to effectively represent his constituents.

He explained that confusion stemming from rival factions in the PDP had made it difficult to discharge his legislative duties and serve his constituency adequately. Oforji echoed similar sentiments, expressing gratitude to the PDP for electing him but confirming that the unresolved leadership conflict necessitated his departure.

Meanwhile, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State also defected from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday. The move, announced during a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt, is reported to be a strategic maneuver aimed at consolidating control of the APC in the state, ahead of his estranged predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Sources indicate that the defection followed a private meeting between Governor Fubara and President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, with the governor acknowledging the president’s intervention as instrumental in navigating the recent political challenges that briefly disrupted his administration.
