Governor Bago, accompanied by other government officials, welcomed the children on Monday at the Niger State Government House. The pupils arrived in separate buses at approximately 5:20 p.m.

The federal government had facilitated the release of the 100 students who were taken by bandits on November 21, 2025. During the attack, armed assailants on motorbikes invaded the school dormitories in the early hours of the morning, holding 315 individuals—303 students and 12 teachers—captive.

Within the first 24 hours, 50 pupils managed to escape and were reunited with their families, leaving 265 people, including 253 children and all 12 teachers, in captivity. Security forces, alongside local hunters, launched immediate operations to search the surrounding forests for the missing victims.

While the release has brought relief to the parents of the freed children, the families of those still in captivity remain in distress, awaiting news of their loved ones.
