Community representative Usman Mohammad-Alqasim highlighted the severe hardship faced by residents, noting that thousands have been without access to the national grid for over half a year. He attributed the crisis to illegal structures built beneath a 33kV power line, which the state government had initially ordered to be demolished.

Mohammad-Alqasim explained that the demolition work was abruptly halted following intervention by Batagarawa Council Chairman Alhaji Yahaya Kawo. While some structures were removed, work stopped before the wider communities could be reconnected. “Although the chairman claimed funds were approved to relocate the power line, no progress has been made. Meanwhile, houses that were initially slated for demolition now enjoy electricity, while the larger population remains in darkness,” he said.
