Abuja Indigenes Unite To Crown Wike ‘Infrastructure Minister Of The Year’.
The original inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory are set to honour the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, with the Nigeria Infrastructure Minister of the Year Award on Saturday, December 13, 2025. In a statement issued by the Secretary-General of the association, Samuel Aye, the people of Karu—home community of former federal lawmaker Senator Tanimu Aduda—described Wike as a result-driven administrator who has significantly transformed the capital city since his appointment by President Bola Tinubu in 2023. Aye noted that FCT indigenes had never witnessed such a concentration of simultaneous infrastructure expansions as those currently underway under the present administration.
The statement explained that the award ceremony will be held at Jummai Aduda Townhall in Karu District, alongside honours for other recipients. The event will also feature a public lecture on the FCT 2026 elections by former Nigerian Ambassador to Gambia, Ayuba Ngbako, as well as scholarship presentations and an empowerment initiative for residents of Karu Chiefdom.
Aye highlighted several key projects credited to Wike, including the rehabilitation of the Nyanya–Karu–Jikwoyi–Karshi Highway, which has eased persistent traffic challenges within the district; the completion of the Kugbo Bus Terminal; the development of the Kugbo International Market; and the awarding of contracts for the reconstruction of roads within Karu township.
Other major initiatives include the Karu Water Supply Scheme (Lot 2), launched in August 2025 to expand access to clean drinking water in Karu, Kurudu, Jikwoyi and surrounding communities. The project involves laying 194 kilometres of pipelines intended to provide potable water to hundreds of thousands of residents, thereby improving health standards and reducing waterborne diseases.
The Karu community also commended Wike for fostering a positive relationship with Senator Aduda and for facilitating the appointment of their son-in-law, Richard Dauda, as Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority. Aye further praised the Minister for terminating the long-delayed Apo–Karshi road contract and reassigning it to a more capable contractor to ensure timely delivery.
He reaffirmed the community’s commitment to supporting the FCT administration under Wike’s leadership but appealed for intervention regarding the non-appointment of any FCT indigene as a career or non-career ambassador. The association expressed concern that the natives were missing out on key federal opportunities, including representation on the board of the North Central Development Commission.
Wike has continued to receive widespread praise for turning Abuja and its environs into a major construction zone, with road expansion, rehabilitation and new infrastructure ongoing across all six Area Councils.
