Obi Under Fire As Presidency Claims He Endorsed External Military Action In Nigeria.
According to Nivo News, the Presidency has strongly criticised Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of endorsing external military interference in Nigeria through his reaction to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to deploy American troops against terrorists in the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a post shared on , President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, condemned Obi’s remarks, describing his stance as inappropriate for someone who once sought the nation’s highest office. Onanuga declared that the administration “shall never forget and forgive Peter Obi for supporting a foreign invasion of Nigeria,” insisting that the former governor’s comments amounted to openly welcoming foreign military intervention.
Obi, while speaking at an event, had accused the Federal Government of downplaying the scale of insecurity and what he perceived as targeted attacks on Christians. He argued that the situation had deteriorated to the point where any form of assistance should be considered. Using an analogy, he likened Nigeria’s plea for help to a starving family being offered food, saying citizens were no longer safe and should accept any support that could save lives.
He further explained that if he were to assume leadership immediately, his top priorities would be securing lives and property, lifting citizens out of poverty to reduce criminality, and investing significantly in basic education. Obi stressed that neglecting millions of out-of-school children would compound the country’s long-term security threats, warning that uneducated children today could become tomorrow’s extremists.
The former Anambra State governor also criticised widespread corruption, stating that public officials who loot state resources only create greater hardship for the nation. Commenting on Trump’s threat, Obi said the statement represented an opportunity Nigeria should evaluate rather than dismiss, adding that it was even the kind of support he would have actively sought.
