The meeting brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, representatives of market and transport unions, student unions, the Nigeria Labour Congress, community leaders, and members of the press. Azare explained that the purpose was to assess the current security landscape and reinforce collaborative efforts to maintain peace and stability across the state.
He reiterated that Akwa Ibom remains peaceful and secure, noting that the police, in cooperation with other security agencies, will continue to conduct robust patrols, intelligence-driven operations, and effective surveillance throughout the state. Azare also expressed concern over the proliferation of fake news and unverified security alerts on social media, which he said could trigger panic and undermine public confidence.
Highlighting the importance of community involvement in security, Azare urged residents to report criminal activities such as armed robbery, cultism, vandalism, and drug trafficking. He stressed that no community can be entirely safe if individuals shield criminals, calling on traditional and religious leaders, youth organizations, market associations, and civil society groups to maintain close collaboration with the police.
Stakeholders, including CAN chairman Bishop Chris Nyong, traditional ruler Edidiem Sylvanus Okon, CHRAN chairman Franklyn Isong, and NLC chairman Sunny James, commended the police for their efforts in maintaining peace. They also made commitments to strengthen security cooperation, enhance information sharing, and support initiatives aimed at sustaining the state’s secure environment.
