According to Nivo News, fifty pupils earlier kidnapped from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Niger State, have successfully escaped from captivity and reunited with their families. The development was confirmed on Sunday by school authorities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The escape occurred just days after armed men stormed the school and abducted 303 pupils and staff, an attack that triggered widespread outrage and renewed demands for stronger security measures in learning institutions across the country. Officials disclosed that the children escaped between Friday and Saturday but did not return to the school compound. Instead, each pupil was either found within surrounding communities or made it home directly.

School management verified the children’s return by reaching out to parents and conducting physical checks to confirm their safety. Confirming the development, the Chairman of the Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, issued an electronically signed statement through his media aide, Daniel Atori.

Yohanna noted that while the escape of the 50 pupils offers relief, the situation remains critical as many others are still in captivity. He urged continuous prayers and support for the safe return of the remaining victims.

The Bishop provided further details, explaining that 251 primary pupils, 14 secondary school students, and 12 teachers remain in the hands of the abductors. He clarified that out of the 430 pupils enrolled in the primary section, 377 are boarders while 53 are day students. He added that beyond the 50 pupils who escaped, 141 pupils were not abducted during the attack.

He revealed that a total of 236 pupils, three children belonging to staff members, 14 secondary school students—making 253 children altogether—and 12 teachers are still being held by the kidnappers.

Yohanna appealed for calm, assuring that efforts are ongoing in collaboration with security agencies, community leaders, government officials, and other stakeholders to secure the safe and swift return of all abductees. He prayed for divine intervention and protection for all affected families.

Reports indicate that the ADC in Adamawa has been experiencing deep divisions, with a bloc loyal to Binani recently announcing a mass resignation following a stakeholders’ meeting held at the residence of Hon. Mijiyewa Umaru Kugama.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the group, drawn from all three senatorial districts in the state, accused the party leadership of weakening internal democracy and violating key principles guiding party operations.

They further argued that recent congresses conducted within the party were flawed and no longer reflected the will of members, describing the current structure in Adamawa as unacceptable and lacking legitimacy.

The developments highlight escalating tensions within the ADC in the state, as more prominent members continue to exit amid leadership disputes.

According to a viral video circulating online, the former Ogun State governor confirmed the development while addressing his supporters from a branded campaign bus associated with the OGD/PBAT Movement.

He stated that although they were present for the APC Ogun East caucus meeting, they were denied access, describing any resolutions taken at the gathering as invalid.

The invitation for the emergency stakeholders’ meeting, issued by party leaders in Ijebu Ode, reportedly included deputy governors, serving and former local government chairmen, councillors, and past and present lawmakers at both state and federal levels.

In a related development, Daniel recently referred to his successor, Ibikunle Amosun, as an “enfant terrible successor” during a church service marking his 70th birthday in Sagamu, where Amosun was also in attendance.

Both politicians were once close allies before a political fallout that began ahead of the 2007 governorship election, when Amosun challenged Daniel’s re-election bid. The rivalry intensified further in the 2011 political cycle, deepening the divide between the two former governors.

Speaking at the event, Daniel remarked that Amosun’s early political ambition played a role in their fallout during his time in office.
