Singer and pastor Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has addressed the controversy surrounding church teachings on wealth, warning against generalisations while condemning abuses in certain religious circles.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

During a recent discussion, the music executive highlighted that debates around the so-called “prosperity gospel” have become highly polarised, with many Nigerians assuming that the mistakes of a few reflect the practices of the entire church.

“I don’t think it’s fair to make sweeping statements that because I have seen evidence of this here it means everybody is guilty of this,” Banky W said.

He pointed out that both extremes—the prosperity gospel and the poverty gospel—misrepresent the essence of Christian teachings. “The prosperity gospel is false and corrupted, the poverty gospel is also false and corrupted. The gospel teaches that God will provide all of your needs and bless you enough for you to be a blessing,” he explained.

Banky W also cautioned against the expectation that Christians must either become billionaires or live in destitution. “That is the promise—not that we are all meant to be Dangote and Otedola, and it’s also not that we are meant to sleep under the bridge,” he said.

While acknowledging that some churches have exploited these teachings, Banky W urged Nigerians not to generalise. “There’s a segment of the church that has taken that and abused it, and those allegations are true, and I don’t support them either,” he added.

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
