Taraba Governor Orders Instant Salary Payments After Massive Staff Audit.
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has ordered the immediate payment of salaries and outstanding entitlements to civil servants cleared by the State Staff Verification Committee. The directive followed the formal presentation of the committee’s report at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo on Wednesday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The verification exercise, conducted over the past five months, aimed to streamline the state’s workforce and address payroll irregularities. The audit led to the removal of more than 7,000 individuals from the payroll due to issues such as irregular employment, duplicate records, and undocumented service histories.
Governor Kefas commended the committee for its “exhaustive, transparent, and courageous” work, noting the team operated under intense public scrutiny and institutional challenges. He emphasized that the integrity of the civil service is vital for effective governance and that leadership must always prioritize accountability. “Posterity will always judge leadership choices either as a legacy of fairness or of negligence,” he said.
The governor also directed the committee to review cases where individuals may have been wrongly excluded and to establish a clear process for their lawful re-engagement, provided they meet employment requirements.
Committee Chairman Alhaji Abdulkadir Haruna reported that of approximately 7,800 workers initially flagged, only 1,410 were fully cleared for reinstatement and immediate payment of all owed entitlements. The review uncovered cases of civil servants receiving overpayments of millions of naira in a single month, underscoring the need for stronger internal controls, full payroll automation, and strict adherence to financial regulations.
Haruna revealed that many delisted workers had no verifiable employment documentation, such as appointment letters, postings, or verification records, highlighting the necessity of payroll automation to prevent future discrepancies and ensure that verified employees are promptly integrated into the digital payment system.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
