Tension At Wadata Plaza As Rival PDP Factions Prepare For Showdown Today.

Published

on

The power struggle within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Monday as opposing blocs loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, fixed separate National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings for today (Tuesday) at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. According to Nivo News, the latest confrontation is a direct fallout of the controversial national convention held on Saturday in Ibadan, where a new National Working Committee (NWC) was elected and several key associates of Wike were expelled.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Despite their reported expulsion, loyalists of the FCT Minister issued a notice summoning an emergency NEC and Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting at the party headquarters. The announcement, signed by former National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, summoned members for a BoT meeting at 11 a.m. and a NEC gathering at 2 p.m., insisting that the sessions were compulsory and would deliberate on what they described as “critical issues.”

The communication, titled Invitation to Emergency 103rd National Executive Committee Meeting, openly challenged the authority of the Turaki-led NWC. In response, newly elected National Chairman Tanimu Turaki led members of his NWC to the headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force on Monday, warning of an alleged plan by Anyanwu’s group to forcibly disrupt party operations. He explained that they had gone to brief the FCT Commissioner of Police on preparations for their inaugural NWC meeting scheduled for today.

Turaki maintained that those claiming to act on behalf of the PDP after being expelled in Ibadan were no longer recognised. He stressed that the national convention remained the party’s highest decision-making body, adding that the expelled members had no legitimacy to convene meetings or speak for the party. He vowed to personally lead his NWC into the secretariat and cautioned that any rival faction attempting to take over the premises would be regarded as intruders.

After returning from the police headquarters, the Turaki-led NWC issued its own notice inviting stakeholders to an emergency gathering at the same venue. Meanwhile, Umar Bature, recently expelled as National Organising Secretary, told reporters that he intended to attend the meeting convened by Anyanwu, describing it as a forum to discuss the “state of the party” while dismissing his expulsion as inconsequential.

PDP elder statesman Bode George condemned the rival NEC and BoT meetings, declaring them illegal and insisting that Anyanwu had already been expelled. He urged him to “wake up and go to his village,” accusing him of attempting to create a parallel structure within the party. However, a close ally of Governor Makinde argued that Turaki also lacked the authority to assume control of the secretariat, claiming that only 16 states participated in the convention that produced him and insisting that national officers could not be legitimately elected with such limited representation.

The source further alleged that major actors on both sides of the crisis—including Makinde, Wike, and George—were themselves culpable in various anti-party activities during the 2023 general elections.

Factional Crisis Rocks ADC In Akwa Ibom As Party Splits Deepen.

Published

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
