PDP War Deepens: Turaki Says He’s Ready To Die As Factions Battle For Control.

Published

on

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, on Tuesday issued a dramatic appeal over the deepening turmoil within the opposition party, urging U.S. President Donald Trump and other global powers to intervene in what he described as a deteriorating democratic situation in Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, Turaki made the appeal while addressing journalists shortly before his faction attempted to hold a National Executive Committee meeting at the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters. He accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of deploying “armed thugs” allegedly supported by police personnel to obstruct the party’s internal processes.

Turaki warned that the crisis had gone beyond internal party politics, insisting that democracy in Nigeria faced imminent danger. “I want to call on President Trump; what is at stake is not just genocide against Christians. He should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat,” he declared. He also called on advanced democracies to intervene urgently.

He stressed that PDP members loyal to his faction were prepared to pay the “ultimate price” to defend the party’s mandate and safeguard democratic values. “We are willing to lay down our lives to protect our office, to protect democracy and to protect our mandate,” he said.

Moments after his remarks, tension erupted at the party headquarters as rival factions clashed. The newly formed National Working Committee loyal to Turaki and another faction aligned with Wike both scheduled parallel meetings at the same venue, escalating the conflict.

Earlier in the day, the National Secretary of the Wike-backed faction, Samuel Anyanwu, arrived at the secretariat with supporters to convene a separate Board of Trustees and NEC meeting, further heightening tensions. Heated verbal exchanges soon spiralled into pushing and shoving as both groups battled for control of the premises.

Security operatives struggled to contain the mounting unrest. Officers eventually ordered everyone to leave the compound, but the situation quickly deteriorated. Police fired teargas canisters to disperse the agitated crowd, forcing party members, staff, and journalists to flee as thick smoke filled the area.

Outside the premises, sporadic clashes continued as supporters from both sides exchanged blows and wielded sticks.

As critical party decisions loom, the internal conflict remains unresolved, with both factions insisting they hold legitimate control of the PDP’s national leadership and headquarters.

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
