Kano APC Chieftain Makes Stunning U-Turn, Begs Akpabio Over “False” $10m Bribe Claim.
A prominent Kano chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Malam Alwan Hassan, has tendered an unreserved apology to the Senate leadership after falsely accusing them of receiving a $10 million bribe to delay the confirmation of Ramat Abdullahi as the Executive Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Hassan issued the apology on Tuesday in Abuja, admitting that his allegation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, his Deputy Senator Barau Jibrin, and the entire Senate leadership was unfounded. According to Nivo News, he described the claims as “untrue, unfair, and uncharitable” to the National Assembly.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier forwarded Abdullahi’s name to the Senate for confirmation, but over a month after the request was read at plenary, the upper chamber has not yet taken a final decision. The delay triggered protests by party supporters from Kano, including Hassan, who initially accused the Senate leadership of deliberately stalling the process.
Speaking at the press conference, Hassan explained that his earlier position was based on information he believed to be credible at the time, but subsequent findings proved that the allegations lacked any factual basis. He stated that the controversial claim emerged from private conversations held while trying to understand the reason behind the prolonged confirmation process.
Hassan fully retracted the allegations and apologised to the National Assembly, stressing that he now recognises the gravity of his earlier statements and the vital role of the parliament in democratic governance. He appealed to lawmakers to reconsider Abdullahi’s nomination and proceed with his confirmation as recommended by President Tinubu.
According to Nivo News, Hassan expressed strong confidence in Abdullahi’s capacity to transform regulatory oversight in the country’s energy sector, urging the Senate to act in the nation’s interest.
