Six Months After APC Defection, Eno’s Face Still Rules PDP Secretariat.

Nearly six months after Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), his portraits and campaign billboards still prominently adorn the state headquarters of his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Uyo.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, Governor Eno officially joined the APC on June 6, 2025, following his resignation from the PDP in mid-October. Despite his defection, his visual presence remains a striking feature at the PDP’s expansive state secretariat, symbolizing lingering political tensions.

Findings revealed that armed police operatives have maintained a heavy presence around the PDP office to prevent possible clashes between rival party factions. A senior party member disclosed that the deployment followed an alleged attempt by a faction led by Osagiefo Igwatt Umoren to seize control of the secretariat from the duly elected chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan.

“The policemen have been stationed here since the factional PDP executives led by Osagiefo Umoren tried to overthrow the elected chairman and his officials,” the source stated.

Once a stronghold of PDP influence in Akwa Ibom, the secretariat has now turned into a battleground for internal supremacy since Eno’s defection. The crisis deepened after the former chairman, Elder Akpan, alongside other state executives, received the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who visited the state at Governor Eno’s invitation to commission the Ika–Azumini Road project.

Following the visit, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) announced the dissolution of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council and appointed Osagiefo Umoren as the new chairman. However, the move was swiftly rejected by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who maintained that no formal meeting was held by the NWC to ratify such a decision.

Akpan also reaffirmed this position, saying, “We have it on reliable authority that the NWC did not hold any formal session to reach such a resolution. The National Secretary, Senator Anyanwu, has issued a statement dismissing the publication and confirming that no formal sitting sanctioned the dissolution of our State Exco.”

Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, has rejected assertions that he is breaching a zoning agreement that would supposedly limit Ebonyi North senators to one term. Highlighting his own constituency initiatives and record, Nwebonyi stated he faces no serious competition for his seat and emphasized that public service should be defined by sacrifice rather than personal gain.

Additionally, the Senator expressed strong support for the APC’s prospects in Ebonyi State and lauded President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing infrastructure development in the South-East. He further praised Governor Francis Nwifuru as a unifying leader, dismissing rumors of friction within the Izzi clan and calling on stakeholders to prioritize the state’s collective development over divisive politics.

The festivities, which began after 2 p.m. at the Emirates Stadium, wound through Highbury, Canonbury, and Upper Street before concluding back at the stadium. This parade honored a league victory confirmed on May 19, ending a 22-year championship drought. During the event, fans were seen climbing trees and rooftops to see Mikel Arteta’s squad as the players showcased the Premier League trophy. The procession included four buses, one of which carried the Arsenal Women’s team, winners of the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup this past February.

This celebration followed a heartbreaking 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday, where Arsenal ultimately fell in a penalty shootout after misses by Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes. Despite the European defeat, the Premier League title held immense significance for the team, coming after three consecutive seasons as runners-up. Reflecting on the massive turnout, journalist Matt Graveling described the celebration as the largest sporting event he had witnessed in his 15-year career.
