Published

The Nigerian government has initiated talks with the United Kingdom regarding the possible transfer of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who is serving a nine-year sentence in a UK prison for organ harvesting.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to informed diplomatic sources, a high-level Nigerian delegation arrived in London on Monday to engage British officials on the matter. The team included Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and Attorney General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi. Both officials reportedly held a closed-door meeting with senior representatives of the UK Ministry of Justice before being received by Acting Nigerian High Commissioner Mohammed Maidugu at the Nigerian High Commission.

Officials disclosed that the visit is part of President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to secure either an early release or a lawful review of Ekweremadu’s sentence on humanitarian grounds. The government is reportedly exploring various legal options under UK law, including prisoner-transfer agreements, compassionate parole, or alternative relief measures.

A senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “We are working on an appeal for a prisoner exchange that would allow him to serve the remainder of his term in Nigeria. Consultations are still ongoing with the UK authorities.”

Ekweremadu, a three-time Deputy Senate President, was convicted at London’s Old Bailey in March 2023, along with his wife, Beatrice, and medical doctor Obinna Obeta. The trio was found guilty of conspiring to exploit a young Nigerian, David Nwamini, for the removal of his kidney to treat Ekweremadu’s daughter, Sonia. The former senator received a sentence of nine years and eight months, the longest ever in the UK for an organ-harvesting offence.

The Nigerian government’s renewed diplomatic engagement underscores its commitment to renegotiate the terms of Ekweremadu’s imprisonment while respecting the UK’s judicial processes. Updates are expected as discussions continue.

AT LAST, RELIEF: MRS Cuts Petrol Pump Prices In Major Markets Sparking Massive Excitement!

Published

on

Abuja motorists are experiencing relief at the pump as major filling stations, including MRS and AA Rano, have lowered their petrol prices following recent shifts in the downstream petroleum market.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • MRS Stations: A market survey conducted on Saturday revealed that MRS outlets in Kubwa and along the Lugbe Expressway dropped their pump price from ₦1,305 to ₦1,265 per litre, marking a ₦40 reduction.

  • AA Rano Stations: AA Rano also decreased its rates by ₦30, bringing the price down from ₦1,330 to ₦1,300 per litre.

  • Current Retail Range: Following these changes, new retail prices at the affected stations now sit between ₦1,265 and ₦1,300 per litre, reversing nearly two weeks of upward trends driven by global crude oil volatility.

Driving Factors Behind the Adjustments

  • Dangote Refinery Initiative: The price cuts follow the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s announcement that it has begun free distribution of petrol to at least five states, including the Federal Capital Territory, with a set gantry price of ₦1,215 per litre.

  • Global Crude Prices: Over the weekend, Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude traded at approximately $84 and $87 per barrel, respectively.

  • Depot Pricing: Major depots such as Pinnacle, Emadeb, NIPCO, and Sigmund recorded petrol selling between ₦1,217 and ₦1,222 per litre.

Industry analysts expect these retail price reductions to spark heightened competition among marketers as they adapt to evolving domestic supply and shifting depot prices.

UNTIL DEATH DO THEM APART: Shehu Sani Drops Bombshell, Says Atiku And Obasanjo’s Bitter Feud Will Never End!

According to former Kaduna Central senator Shehu Sani, the ongoing political rivalry between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, is unlikely to end until one of them passes away.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sharing his thoughts on following a recent public exchange between the two leaders, Sani highlighted that their dispute has spanned over twenty years, outliving multiple political eras. He remarked that the feud began when today’s Gen Zs were still in nursery and primary school, and it persists now that this same generation has graduated from universities, married, and started families.

Sani metaphorically framed their ongoing exchanges as a military conflict, noting that Atiku previously launched a major verbal attack, which has since been met with Obasanjo’s relentless counter-attacks over the past two decades. He concluded that the rivalry will likely only cease when one of them is gone, leaving the survivor to deliver a glowing tribute.

Background of the Conflict:

  • The latest tensions were reignited after Obasanjo publicly stated that picking Atiku as his running mate for the 1999 presidential election was among his biggest political regrets.

  • Atiku served as vice president under Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007, though their relationship fractured significantly during their time in office and has remained broken ever since.
