Speaking at the launch event in Lagos, Awode highlighted that the foundation was inspired by his personal journey from modest beginnings in Ogbere, Ogun State, and his belief that education is the most powerful tool for societal transformation.
Awode, who previously served as Secretary of the Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union, has a diverse career spanning roles at Transsion Holdings, the University of St Andrews, and ClovisCasuals, a fashion startup he founded. Currently pursuing an MBA at Georgia State University, he explained that his varied experiences have informed the foundation’s mission.
“Education changed the course of my life,” Awode remarked. “The Louis Awode Foundation aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of background, has access to opportunities to learn, grow, and drive positive change in their communities.”
The foundation’s work is centered on four pillars: Education, Community Development, Empowerment, and Global Impact. Under the Education pillar, LAF plans to support underprivileged students, first-generation graduates, and persons with disabilities through scholarships, mentorship programs, digital literacy initiatives, and vocational training.
Through Community Development projects, the foundation will collaborate with grassroots organizations to improve living standards in underserved areas by providing clean water, healthcare support, and economic empowerment initiatives. The Empowerment pillar will target youth, women, and persons with disabilities, offering entrepreneurship grants, financial literacy sessions, and leadership workshops designed to foster independence and community leadership.
LAF’s Global Impact initiatives will extend its reach internationally through partnerships with global organizations, aligning efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to address poverty, inequality, and environmental sustainability.
The foundation’s leadership team includes Marketing Lead Bolatito Ajao as Secretary, Event Strategist Oyelola Olawale Kush, and Global Fundraiser Chiahulamiro Stanley, combining expertise in communications, strategy, and development to drive the organization’s mission.
Awode, a first-generation university graduate with degrees from the University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, the University of Dundee, and Georgia State University, has dedicated his career to social entrepreneurship, technology, and advocacy for diversity and inclusion, championing equitable access to education and opportunities both in Nigeria and globally.
