Comptroller Salamat Aliyu Atuluku, the Customs Area Controller, attributed the record-breaking performance to teamwork, operational discipline, and innovative strategies. She revealed that with two months remaining in the year, the command has already surpassed its ₦216 billion annual target, amassing ₦247.46 billion from January to October, up from ₦164.08 billion in the same period of 2024.
“At October 2025, the Command has already exceeded its annual target by over ₦31 billion, with two powerful months to go,” Atuluku stated. She credited the success to strategic leadership, renewed discipline, and the dedication of her officers.
The controller highlighted the pivotal role of Bodogwu, the Unified Customs Management System, in streamlining operations. “Through Bodogwu, we have been able to eliminate bottlenecks, enhance data accuracy, and ensure real-time accountability, significantly supporting operational transparency,” she explained.
Improved collaboration with sister agencies, terminal operators, and shipping companies was also cited as a key factor in boosting voluntary compliance and minimizing disputes during cargo clearance. The command has strengthened fiscal enforcement, blocked revenue leakages, and modernized monitoring systems to track import declarations and duty payments effectively.
Atuluku lauded her officers for their integrity and commitment, reminding them that the revenue collected fuels national development, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security. She emphasized that vigilance against economic sabotage remains crucial. “We are reinforcing anti-smuggling measures to protect the economy while ensuring legitimate trade flourishes under a transparent system,” she added.
The achievement reflects the ongoing reforms under Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who has prioritized automation, stakeholder engagement, and efficiency since 2023. As the Port Harcourt Area I Command continues to oversee key seaports and export terminals in Rivers State, it remains a critical contributor to Nigeria’s non-oil revenue.
Atuluku expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General, Customs management teams, and port stakeholders, urging continued collaboration to maintain momentum and build a more efficient, people-focused Customs administration.
