Tensions Rise As Russia Reacts To Trump’s Call For Military Action In Nigeria

According to Nivo News, the Russian Government has expressed concern over the current situation in Nigeria following recent remarks by United States President Donald Trump, suggesting potential military action in the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking at a press briefing in Moscow on Friday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said her country is closely monitoring developments and urged all parties involved to act within international legal frameworks.

“We are closely following this issue and call on all parties to strictly comply with international law,” Zakharova stated in response to a journalist’s question.

Her comments come a week after President Trump announced that he had instructed the Pentagon to prepare possible military measures targeting terrorist groups in Nigeria. Trump claimed the move was necessary to protect Christian communities allegedly under threat.

In a post shared on Truth Social on November 1, the U.S. President asserted that Christianity in Nigeria faced an “existential threat,” accusing radical Islamist groups of “mass slaughter” of Christians. He went on to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” adding that his administration “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening.”

Trump further directed key congressional figures, including Barry Moore and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, to investigate the situation and report their findings.

However, the Nigerian Government swiftly dismissed Trump’s statements, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all citizens regardless of religion. President Bola Tinubu rejected the designation as “misleading and politically motivated,” stressing that insecurity in the country affects both Christians and Muslims alike.

Officials in Abuja also criticized what they described as “foreign misrepresentations” of Nigeria’s complex internal challenges.

Russia’s intervention marks the latest in a growing wave of international reactions to Trump’s comments, especially amid reports that the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) was reviewing potential contingency plans.

Zakharova cautioned Washington against unilateral action, urging the United States and its allies to demonstrate restraint and responsibility. She warned that “hasty and erratic interventions” could escalate tensions rather than resolve them.

The match began with an immediate impact from Arsenal, as Kai Havertz capitalized on a pass from Leandro Trossard to put the London club ahead within the first six minutes. Arsenal maintained their lead for much of the first half, successfully frustrating the French champions.

The momentum shifted in the 63rd minute when a VAR review resulted in a penalty for PSG. Ousmane Dembélé stepped up to the spot and converted two minutes later, bringing the score level at 1-1. Despite intense efforts from both sides during the remainder of regulation and throughout extra time, neither team could find a winning goal.

The title was ultimately decided by penalties. In the shootout, PSG held their nerve, with Lucas Beraldo converting their final spot-kick. With Arsenal needing to score to force sudden death, defender Gabriel Magalhães sent his effort over the bar, sealing a 4-3 victory for the French side.

This triumph marks a historic achievement for PSG, who become the first French club to win the UEFA Champions League title in two consecutive seasons, having defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2025 final. The victory also places head coach Luis Enrique among an elite group of managers to have secured at least three European Cup titles.
