According to Nivo News, the demonstrators marched through major streets, expressing anger over Trump’s claim of a supposed “Christian genocide” in Nigeria and his warning of a possible U.S. intervention. The protesters carried placards with messages such as “We Condemn Trump’s Threat to Attack Nigeria,” “There Is No Christian Genocide in Nigeria,” and “America Wants to Control Our Resources.”

The groups described Trump’s comments as false, inflammatory, and capable of inciting division within the country. They emphasized that Nigeria’s religious diversity should not be used as a political tool by foreign powers.

Trump, in a post shared on Truth Social on November 1, alleged that Christianity in Nigeria was under an “existential threat,” claiming that “thousands of Christians are being killed.” He further declared that “radical Islamists” were responsible for the violence and announced plans to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

He added that the U.S. “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening,” asserting that his administration would be “ready, willing, and able to protect our great Christian population around the world.” Trump also called on U.S. lawmakers, including Congressman Barry Moore and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, to investigate the situation and report their findings.

The Nigerian government swiftly rejected the allegations, describing them as inaccurate and politically driven. Officials reaffirmed that the nation is fully committed to safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all religious groups.

President Bola Tinubu dismissed Trump’s remarks, stressing that Nigeria does not discriminate based on religion. He described the CPC designation as “misleading” and unrepresentative of the country’s actual realities.
