The announcement of his defection was confirmed through a statement released by the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe State Governor, Mamman Mohammed. Yarin Fika made the switch public during a ceremony held in Damaturu, the state capital, where he praised Governor Mai Mala Buni’s leadership and commitment to Yobe’s development as the driving force behind his decision.

“I was drawn to the APC because of Governor Buni’s dedication to the growth and transformation of our state,” he stated, adding that he was ready to contribute his quota to furthering the administration’s achievements.

Welcoming him into the party, Yobe APC Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka, described Yarin Fika’s defection as a significant gain for the ruling party, assuring him of full integration and equal treatment within the APC. “We appreciate this move and will ensure you feel fully at home within our ranks,” Gadaka stated.

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.
