“Prepare For Possible Actions” — Trump Orders Defence Officials After Nigeria Redesignation.

Published

on

Nigeria — According To Nivo News, US President Donald Trump has renewed threats of military action against Nigeria, saying Washington may use force — including air strikes or ground operations — if Abuja does not halt what he described as targeted killings of Christians. The comments were made in a recorded address released on Wednesday in which Trump accused “radical Islamists” of carrying out a “mass slaughter” of Christians and warned that the United States would act should the Nigerian government fail to stop the violence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Trump noted that on October 31 he redesignated Nigeria a “country of particular concern” and used the address, delivered behind a lectern bearing the seal of his office, to outline a range of possible US responses. He said Washington could cut all aid to Nigeria and, if necessary, take direct military measures to eliminate the groups he blamed for the attacks.

In blunt language, Trump told US defence officials to prepare for possible operations, warning that any military action would be severe. “If the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the USA will immediately stop all aid assistance to Nigeria,” he said, adding that the United States might “very well go into that now disgraced country, guns-a-blazing, to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”

Trump framed the situation as existential for Nigerian Christians, asserting that “thousands and thousands of Christians are being killed” and urging Congress to investigate the allegations. He specifically asked Representative Riley Moore and Representative Tom Cole, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, to examine the situation and report back promptly.

Beyond military options, the president warned of an immediate suspension of US assistance if the killings continued and described the administration’s stance as part of a broader effort to protect Christian communities worldwide. “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries,” he said, insisting Washington was “ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world.”

Kwankwasiyya Warns Kano Lawmakers: “Don’t Use Impeachment to Settle Political Scores”.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has warned the Kano State House of Assembly against using the impeachment process as a political weapon, cautioning that such actions could deepen political divisions in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The statement comes in response to reported moves to impeach Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

In a Friday release, the movement’s spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Saleh, described the development as troubling and urged political actors to avoid actions that could be perceived as politically motivated.

“The people of Kano are closely monitoring events, and there is growing concern that this impeachment attempt may be driven more by political considerations than by genuine constitutional necessity,” Saleh said.

He emphasized that while the constitution empowers lawmakers to hold public officials accountable, impeachment is one of the most serious legislative tools and must be exercised responsibly.

“Impeachment must never be reduced to a means of settling political disputes or rearranging political alliances. It should be guided strictly by justice, fairness, and the interests of the people,” he added.

Saleh also reminded the state leadership that the current administration came to power through the collective efforts and sacrifices of thousands of Kwankwasiyya supporters across Kano State.

“The victory that brought this government into office was not the achievement of any single individual. It resulted from the loyalty, unity, and sacrifices of Kwankwasiyya faithful across all 44 local governments in Kano State,” he said.

He cautioned that any perceived targeting of key administration figures could send the wrong signal to supporters who worked tirelessly to secure electoral success.

“Those in power must remember the collective struggle that made their victory possible. Political authority should never be exercised in ways that suggest abandoning the alliances and loyalties that built the movement,” Saleh added.

The movement further called on members of the Kano State House of Assembly to carry out their constitutional duties with independence, fairness, and accountability to the people.

“The authority of the Assembly comes directly from the electorate and must be exercised with wisdom, fairness, and a strong sense of responsibility,” he said.

Saleh warned that political actions perceived as persecution could escalate tensions in the state’s political environment.

“History shows that when political power is wielded in ways that appear unjust or vindictive, the people ultimately deliver their verdict through democratic means,” he noted.

He reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to peace, democratic stability, and the protection of the mandate given to the current administration by Kano citizens.

“At this critical moment, all political actors must exercise restraint and wisdom, remembering the sacrifices of the millions whose collective efforts brought this government into office,” the statement concluded.

A senior refinery official confirmed the increase on Friday night, noting that the new price reflects shifts in global oil market fundamentals.

“Yes, the price has been reviewed. The new gantry price is now ₦995 per litre,” the official told The PUNCH on condition of anonymity.

The revised rate follows an earlier increase from ₦774 to ₦874 per litre earlier this week, meaning the refinery’s petrol price has jumped from ₦774 to ₦995 per litre within four days.

Checks on petroleumprice.ng also confirmed that the updated gantry price had been reflected on the platform.

Industry experts warn that the hike could lead to further increases in retail pump prices across Nigeria, with estimates suggesting petrol may sell for over ₦1,050 per litre in some areas, depending on transport costs and marketers’ margins.

The increase came after a brief suspension of petrol loading operations at the refinery on Friday. Sources said truck-out activities were halted around 2:00 a.m., leaving depot owners and bulk marketers uncertain about the refinery’s next pricing move. Market observers note that such pauses in loading often precede price adjustments.

Refinery officials have consistently defended their pricing approach, emphasizing that petrol prices reflect global market conditions. In a statement issued on Thursday, the company explained that adjustments are influenced by international crude prices, logistics costs, and operational realities, stressing that prices are not set arbitrarily.

The refinery also highlighted that Nigeria has fully transitioned to a deregulated downstream petroleum market, where prices are largely determined by global crude oil rates, foreign exchange fluctuations, and supply dynamics. The company said it has absorbed roughly 20% of rising costs to reduce pressure on the domestic market.

Meanwhile, data from the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) shows that imported petrol remains cheaper than locally refined products. According to MEMAN, Dangote’s petrol gantry price previously stood at ₦874 per litre, while the landing cost of imported petrol was ₦809.37 per litre—about ₦64 cheaper.
