The 26-year-old Super Eagles striker delivered a stunning performance, netting a hat-trick that made him the first Nigerian to score 25 goals in European competitions and only the second to ever record a UEFA Champions League hat-trick.

Osimhen, who turned the Johan Cruijff Arena into his personal stage, opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a powerful header that left Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer helpless. Just seven minutes later, he doubled the lead from the penalty spot following a VAR-confirmed handball, sending the keeper the wrong way with composure. He sealed the emphatic win in the 78th minute with yet another precise penalty, completing his hat-trick and sending Galatasaray fans into jubilation.

His feat equaled the record first set by Yakubu Ayegbeni, who achieved Nigeria’s first-ever Champions League hat-trick while playing for Maccabi Haifa in 2002. Osimhen’s treble was also Galatasaray’s first in the tournament since Burak Yilmaz’s memorable hat-trick against Cluj in 2012.

With his latest goals, Osimhen has now surpassed Obafemi Martins to become Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in European competitions, boasting 25 goals in total—15 of which came in the Champions League.

The former Napoli forward, who has now won three consecutive UEFA Champions League Man of the Match awards this season, currently stands just three games away from matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for goals in consecutive European appearances.

Osimhen’s remarkable form, with 12 goals in eight European matches this season, continues to fuel Galatasaray’s resurgence as they chase their first Champions League knockout stage berth in more than a decade.
