The governor discussed this vision during a meeting with Power Africa’s management at the Africa Investment Forum in Rabat, Morocco. The meeting focused on improving Ogun State’s energy infrastructure to ensure dependable electricity for its residents, industries, and businesses.

Power Africa, an initiative aimed at expanding electricity access in Sub-Saharan Africa, promotes investments and public-private partnerships to enhance energy generation, transmission, and distribution.

The discussions explored opportunities for attracting investments, boosting capacity building, and strengthening technical expertise within Ogun State’s newly established Ministry of Energy. Governor Abiodun reaffirmed the state’s commitment to achieving energy self-sufficiency through innovative gas-to-power projects and renewable energy solutions.

He expressed confidence in collaborating with Power Africa to meet Ogun’s increasing energy needs while driving sustainable development.

In addition, Governor Abiodun met with Morocco’s CEO of the Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines to explore potential partnerships in the mining and hydrocarbons sectors. This meeting follows Ogun’s designation as a frontier state by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), which underscores the state’s growing role in Nigeria’s energy sector.

The discussions aimed to identify opportunities for unlocking Ogun State’s mineral and hydrocarbon potential, with Governor Abiodun emphasizing the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing economic growth and development.

Earlier, Governor Abiodun had met with Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), to discuss investment opportunities in Ogun, particularly in livestock value addition, timber processing, renewable energy, and the power sector.

Additionally, the governor highlighted the state’s plans for an automotive assembly plant and expanding the Lagos red and blue rail lines, as well as the Purple Line, which will extend to the Redeemed Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
