“Bring It To My House!” – Soyinka Fires Back At U.S. Embassy Over Visa Row
Renowned playwright and Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has strongly criticized the United States Consulate in Lagos over his visa revocation, declaring that he will not reapply for a new one.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, Soyinka made the statement during an interview with BBC Yoruba while reacting to the letter he received from the embassy asking him to bring his passport for visa cancellation.
The literary icon described the request as laughable, insisting that the officials who revoked his visa should come to his residence to complete the process themselves.
He said, “If you read the letter they sent to me, it stated that I should bring my passport so they can stamp it to show it has been cancelled. They are jokers. I should take my passport to those who revoked my visa? I told them they should come to my house, take the passport themselves, and stamp it.”
Soyinka maintained that he had no plans to reapply or visit the embassy again. “I cannot say I’ll be applying again or sitting down to fill out any form, whether online or having to go there, no,” he added.
The professor, however, clarified that he harbored no ill feelings toward the American people, emphasizing that he would only accept a visa in the future if the U.S. authorities acknowledged their error.
“But if they want, because I’m not fighting the American people, no. If in the future they realize they made a mistake and ask me to come and take my visa back, I will say they should bring it to my house. And before you come to my house, you will need a visa to enter,” he stated.
