Colonel Ma’aji In Custody As Investigation Reveals Elite Network Behind Alleged Plot.
Fresh developments have emerged connecting Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji, the alleged coordinator of a foiled coup attempt, to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, who remains under investigation after security operatives raided his Abuja residence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to sources familiar with the investigation, Colonel Ma’aji, currently in military custody, previously served as Security Adviser to Sylva during the 2015 Bayelsa State governorship election, in which Sylva contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ma’aji, described as being “very close” to Sylva, reportedly coordinated the security network for the APC campaign during the December 5, 2015 polls. The former minister polled 86,852 votes, losing to PDP candidate Seriake Dickson, who secured 134,998 votes.
In response to reports linking Sylva to the alleged plot, his media aide, Julius Bokoru, denied any involvement by the former minister. Bokoru stated that Sylva “is an unrepentant and thoroughbred democrat who has consistently supported President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s democratic institutions,” describing the allegations as “mischievous and politically motivated” and insisting that Sylva had no connection to any attempts to undermine the government.
Military intelligence sources indicate that Colonel Ma’aji is suspected of playing a central role in the plot, allegedly recruiting junior officers and coordinating logistics and funding for the network. A senior source said, “His primary task appeared to be recruitment and coordination. There are also strong indications that he had access to funds beyond what could be explained by his service income.”
Investigators reportedly conducted forensic searches of Ma’aji’s residence and that of his wife in Abuja, uncovering extensive financial records and property documents. A military source revealed, “A trove of information has been unearthed regarding his accounts, transactions, and multiple landed properties.” Despite these findings, Ma’aji has reportedly refused to cooperate with the special investigative panel, while junior officers detained in connection with the case have provided “significant statements.”
Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji, born in 1976 to Nupe parents, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 2000 after graduating from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) as part of regular course 47. He rose through the ranks to become a colonel in 2017, following attendance at the Policy, Strategy and Leadership Course (PSLC) at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Plateau State. Ma’aji previously served as commanding officer of the 19 Battalion in Okitipupa, Ondo State, before being posted to Koko in Warri North LGA, Delta State. In January 2021, he was appointed commanding officer of Delta Safe following a transfer from the Depot, Nigerian Army, in Zaria.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
