Kano Police Clamp Down on Crime: 157 Suspects Arrested in Sweeping Operation

During a press briefing held on Wednesday, April 16, the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, outlined key security achievements recorded since he assumed office. According to him, these arrests were the result of proactive policing strategies and strengthened community collaboration, which also led to the dismantling of several criminal networks operating in the state.
The police recovered an arsenal of illegal weapons and narcotics, including 19 improvised revolver rifles, 114 live cartridges, six spent cartridges, and suspected tramadol tablets valued at ₦150 million.
Between March 17 and April 16, police arrested a diverse group of suspects: 24 were accused of armed robbery, 14 of drug trafficking, seven of vehicle theft, five of motorcycle theft, 28 of burglary, and 79 of gang-related violence (locally known as “Yan Daba”).
The force also recovered additional dangerous items such as English pistols, a locally fabricated pistol, 117 live and spent cartridges, 11 rounds of live ammunition, and various vehicles—two cars, two tricycles, and three motorcycles. Other items seized include six cartons of ampicillin, 22 bottles of a toxic substance called “suck and die,” 69 sachets and 260 exol tablets, 57 cutlasses, 71 knives, seven pairs of scissors, two axes, and a bow.
Commissioner Bakori emphasized the command’s commitment to launching new intelligence-driven operations and community-based security initiatives aimed at disrupting criminal activities and sustaining peace across the state.
