Gunmen Strike Again: One Killed As Benue Lawmaker’s Convoy Comes Under Attack.
Tension has heightened in Anyiin, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, after unidentified gunmen ambushed the convoy of Prince Shimapever Jiji, the member representing Logo State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the lawmaker’s convoy came under heavy gunfire on Saturday evening while returning from a condolence visit to Tombu Council Ward. The attack claimed the life of a former councillor identified as Tsebee, who was reportedly shot dead on the spot, while several others sustained injuries.
A community resident, who spoke under anonymity for safety reasons, revealed that the legislator had earlier visited the area to sympathize with families affected by a previous assault last Thursday that left three people dead. The source added that the assailants opened fire indiscriminately upon sighting the convoy near Anyiin.
Chairman of Logo Local Government Area, Clement Kav, confirmed the attack, describing it as a senseless act of violence. He explained that he was meant to accompany the lawmaker on the visit but was summoned for a meeting by the governor before the tragic news broke.
Kav called on security agencies to conduct a full-scale investigation and ensure that those behind the attack are apprehended. Meanwhile, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, SP Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful as her phone remained unreachable.
Residents of the community have since appealed for tighter security, warning that recurring assaults could further destabilize the already volatile region. The latest ambush reportedly occurred just days after gunmen killed three people in the same Tombu area, underscoring the deepening insecurity across Logo LGA.
