The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the Federal High Court in Abuja for halting its planned elective National Convention, describing the judgement as an assault on Nigeria’s democratic process.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said Friday’s ruling by Justice Kolawole Omotosho would not prevent the PDP from continuing with preparations for the convention. He urged party members across the country to remain committed and steadfast in their support.

Ologunagba highlighted a recent Supreme Court decision affirming that political parties have the authority to manage their internal affairs. He emphasized that this ruling reinforces the PDP’s right to proceed with activities leading up to its convention.

The PDP convention, scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, is set to elect new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and consider amendments to the party’s constitution.

The statement titled, “PDP Planned National Convention Not Vitiated by Court,” reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the rule of law and multi-party democracy. It added that the PDP has instructed its legal team to appeal the judgement while continuing preparations for the convention.

The party called on its chapters and organs nationwide to remain focused and committed to the process, reiterating that the court’s decision does not diminish the party’s authority over its internal affairs or its dedication to democratic principles.
