Senator Natasha Breaks Silence, Explains Why Akpabio Was Invited To Kogi Project Launch.
According to Nivo News, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, has explained that her invitation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other senators for the commissioning of her constituency projects in Kogi State followed the proper legislative protocol and procedure.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released on Thursday, the lawmaker said she followed parliamentary convention by channeling her invitation through the presiding officer of the Senate. “As is customary for such announcements, I wrote a formal letter to the Senate through the presiding officer for the Senate President to read on the floor,” she stated.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who recently marked her second year in office, emphasized that the invitation was not a personal celebration but an expression of her dedication to public service and transparent representation. “I extended the invitation to ensure inclusivity and avoid the impression of a private celebration. I am a progressive person, and despite ongoing legal matters, I continue to carry out my legislative responsibilities in line with due process,” she added.
The senator stressed that the commissioning events symbolize her commitment to institutional respect and community development, underscoring that the projects are aimed at improving the welfare of her constituents. “This is not about personal recognition but about acknowledging the collective achievements of public service,” she noted.
Her remarks come amid public interest following her recent reinstatement after a six-month suspension from the Senate. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6 after the Senate adopted a report by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, following a heated altercation with Senate President Akpabio on February 20 over seating arrangements, which later led to allegations of sexual harassment — claims that Akpabio strongly denied.
After serving her suspension, the senator was reinstated on September 24 and has since resumed active legislative duties. Since her return, she has sponsored several key initiatives, including a bill to establish a National Centre for Autism and six zonal centres across the country, aimed at enhancing diagnosis, research, and care for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
